Big Burn is about a two mile hike in the woodlands along a lovely burn, over wood bridges and past a series of falls. The terrain is variable and there is some scramble involved depending on how far along you go but for us the hardest part of the adventure was simply finding the turn-off to the parking lot.

Aug 2018. As you leave Golspie heading to Dunrobin Castle on the A9, the Big Burn Walk car park is on the left just after the Golspie Inn. The car park is not big. The walk is about 4 kilometres round trip out to the waterfall and back. The path is reasonably well signposted. The walk is not difficult, though there were mud patches when we did it.

Driving north from the village of Golspie on the A9, it's just under 2 miles to reach the main carpark for the falls. You will see a sign on your left, about a mile from Golspie directing you left off the A9 to Big Burn Walk. This is a free car park and you will see a clear footpath leading from the car park to the falls.

May 2023. While the Dunrobin castle is a big draw, this is the hidden gem in Golspie. The car park near the old mill was closed, so we drove up further to other one further upstream. This cut out a lot of the effort and walking and got us almost directly to the bridge overlooking the gorge and falls.
